ICO fine for losing social care records

The need to ensure that buildings are properly cleared when moving out of accommodation has never been more imperative than it is now. Hampshire County Council has recently been fined £100,000 by the ICO after documents containing personal details of over 100 people were found in a disused building. Social care files, along with 45 bags of confidential waste, were found at Town End House in Havant and contained highly sensitive information about adults and children in vulnerable circumstances. Given this fine it is clear that the ICO will not tolerate this happening so, if you are on the move, be careful to ensure everything is either taken with you or securely disposed of!
